The Standard Service product is not managed or integrated into the Exetel network and is best suited to customers who prefer a lower cost service, as opposed to the higher performance of our Premium MBB service.
Exetel uses the Optus 3G mobile network to provide mobile broadband services to residential and business customers. The Optus 3G network is a constantly growing network with capacity and coverage being added on a constant basis. Exetel's Premium MBB Service is directly connected via a Layer 2 interconnect to the Optus 3G network. In this way we control the bandwidth we provide to you on the parts of the network we control and we ensure (and constantly display to you) that you are using a premium network rather than a network that is deliberately under provisioned.
The Exetel Mobile Broadband service is provided using the Optus Mobile data network. While we can’t provide any ‘guarantees’ of service via the Optus towers or the Optus back haul network to our points of presence we can guarantee that your service will suffer no contention issues once it reaches the parts of the network we control.
You can connect to the Exetel mobile broadband services either via a mobile handset that has data capability, via a USB modem that can accept a sim card or by using a desk top, lap top or notebook computer that has an inbuilt mobile broadband chip set and SIM socket.
Exetel provides "data only" plans predominantly for computer only users or "data and mobile call plans" to be used in mobile telephone handsets. Both plans allow the user to use VoIP to make telephone calls at much lower rates than land lines or most mobile plans.
The current maps of all parts of Australia can be found by clicking on the 'Coverage Maps' on the Optus website. These maps are being constantly updated and provide a reasonable guide to any user being able to obtain realistic service. However, these maps are simply a guide and many factors can influence whether a particular user can obtain a suitable service or any service at all.
There are too many variables including number of concurrent users at any time on any tower in any location, the distance from any tower, the quality of the equipment being used, obstructions between the user and the tower being accessed for any estimate of speed likely to be obtained from this service at any given time or in any given location.
You can buy a mobile broadband service direct from Telstra, Optus or Vodafone or one of those companies re-sellers or wholesale customers. The range of plans and conditions is very 'wide' and very 'deep' with a blaze of disclaimers and 'fine print' applying to virtually every description of what you might get and how much it might cost.
We believe Exetel offers you the following sensible advantages over most competitive offerings.
With each Exetel Mobile Broadband plan you also get the following additional facilities:
