Exetel ADSL and HSPA Post Paid Plans Include One DID

A "DID" (Direct In Dial) number is a valid PSTN dial number that is in the same format as a standard wire line number and allows calls from standard telephones to be made to your VoIP number . Currently local numbers are available for all the major capitals: Newcastle, Penrith, Wollongong, Geelong and Central Coast. There are some other towns and areas available. You can email Contact Us with your town and we can do a service area check. For those areas without a service number, remember you can keep your existing number and/or choose a local DID in an are where friends and family call you from, so they are charged a local call from their standard telephone provider. Of course, if they also use Exetel VoIP it will be a free call.

Why Use Exetel's VoIP?

Exetel is an Experienced VoIP Provider

Exetel has been using and providing VoIP solutions for over three years, and is a highly sophisticated user of advanced VoIP solutions itself with over 80 VoIP handsets in use. These users are in two different countries (40 in Sri Lanka and 40 in Australia) the Australian users are mainly in our North Sydney office, and the additional "work from home" personnel in WA, the ACT and the NSW Central Coast.

Improved Functionality and Flexibility

VoIP can offer your business a "Unified Communication" service where your voice and data; phone calls; faxes; SMS; email; web conferencing and more can be run over a single network. VoIP provides all of the same features as a traditional PSTN (free of charge), with the added ability of facilitating tasks that would be more difficult, or impossible to implement using PSTN. Features only available to a VoIP service include:

More Detailed CDR's

Exetel's Asterisk Billing system allows each call to be recorded in detail (caller and the recipient; the duration of the call and the total amount billed for the call), compared to a PSTN system where the details of calls are limited.

Detailed Invoices

Exetel provides VoIP as an add-on service to its DSL offerings; using the data connection to make calls makes it a natural extension to this data product, and creates a seamless billing process. A user's VoIP spend is added to their monthly data invoice.

Voicemail sent to Users Email

The Asterisk Billing System allows for Voicemails to be recorded and then sent to the recipients email via a media player file. This service is very useful for keeping valuable messages, as well as listening to them when out of the office.

Easy Expansibility and Upgradability

Upgrading traditional PSTN often consists of purchasing new hardware and provisioning new lines, which can be very time consuming and expensive. VoIP on the other hand often only requires more Internet bandwidth and software upgrades.

9 cent Calls to Anywhere in Australia

The major benefit of VoIP over "traditional" telephone calls are the cheap call rates on offer that include 9 cents (untimed) to any Australian land line number, 20 cents/minute to mobile phone numbers, and 30 cents (untimed) to 13 and 1300 numbers. For full details of our VoIP call rates on offer please see click here.

Migrating from "Traditional" Voice to VoIP

Exetel can accommodate to your business migration needs for both new and older PABX systems. Depending on what PABX system you currently have, and the preferences of your company, the migration from "traditional" Voice to VoIP varies in length of time. For businesses with a VoIP supported PABX system migration can be instant. Converting an older PABX into a VoIP PABX takes between 1-2 weeks, and installing a New PABX Cisco Unified Communication System takes between 4-6 weeks. These time lengths are estimates and vary depending on a company's preference; Exetel's migration was intentionally done over a six week period to ensure adequate testing.

Company Specific Reqirements

Do you have a VoIP ready PABX?

If your business has a new PABX system that supports VoIP (most do by adding an additional VoIP module) you are able to migrate immediately. To begin using Exetel VoIP a user is able to log into their Exetel User facilities and apply for an account, where a username and password will be issued immediately. On receipt of their username and password, the user is then able to enter these details into their PABX system and configure their VoIP module to communicate with the Exetel VoIP server. Savings begin instantly when all calls are switched to VoIP.

Converting an old PABX into a VoIP PABX

If your business is running on an older PABX system with spare PSTN ports a VoIP gateway can be added. This is done by configuring a Cisco Linksys SPA8800/SPA8000, which will provide a VoIP port via the traditional PSTN port. Phone calls that are then sent via these ports to your PABX will be VoIP calls via Data network, with the ability to then program the VoIP ports to be first priority when sending calls – enabling your business to save more money. Additionally to this, there is the ability to convert an old PABX into pure VoIP PABX by connecting all ports to the VoIP gateway.

Getting a New PABX

Exetel can supply and install a Cisco Unified Communication System which is designed for businesses that have less than 64 users. This system can be customized with all basic PABX functions – Voice Mail, Conference call, Auto Attendant, etc. Additionally, This unit is an all in one router and wireless hub (for 8 and 16 users model). Cisco provides a wide range of handsets to select from to suit the specific needs and budgets of your business.

Telephone Line Required For VoIP

If you are using an Exetel “Naked” ADSL2 service then no ‘telephone’ line is required to use VoIP.

If you use the Exetel ADSL2 service the telephone line required for ADSL2 is included in the ADSL2 monthly access charge

Exetel VOIP Via Current Handset Implementation (Combined ADSL2 Modem And ATA)

To use a VoIP service you will need either a stand alone ATA or an ADSL modem with an ATA capability built in to it. If you are thinking of buying a new ADSL2 capable modem and/or a new ATA, SeeknBuy is currently offering the Netcomm NB9WMAXX at a very attractive price - click here for details. This is the same modem we use ourselves, so we know it is good!

The advantages of the NB9WMAXX (or any other manufacturer's similarly specified product) is that it provides all the required functions in one 'box' with only one power outlet required and reduces cabling to the minimum. Its major plus is that it allows you to use your current telephone handset (and current telephone number) to receive calls while you use the same handset to make calls using VoIP. In the event that the VoIP service/ADSL service becomes unavailable for any reason you continue to use your current handset to make calls via the standard telephone service without the need to plug/unplug anything.

Exetel VOIP Via Current Handset Implementation (Using Current Modem And New ATA)

To allow you to use your current PSTN handset to make and receive standard PSTN calls you will need a dual port adaptor that plugs in to your ADSL modem to access your VoIP service as well as remaining connected to your standard telephone service.

The current cost of the Netcomm V210P single port ATA sourced through SeeknBuy can be seen by clicking here.

Specifications of the V210P may be found by clicking here

Exetel VOIP Via 'Soft Phone' Implementation

If you would prefer to use your PC's sound card and a head set to make and receive VOIP calls you will need ´soft phone´ software from the provider of your choice.

Exetel recommends that the softphone software you select uses the G.729 codec. You may select free software that uses G.711 but be advised that you can only make outgoing calls. Incoming calls cannot be received.
